About Annette

Expert Clinical Care. Experience. Compassion.

Counseling History

Annette has 20+ years experience in the mental health field.  She has been counseling as a licensed professional for 18 of those years.  As a graduate of Oklahoma State University's Master's of Counseling program, she specializes in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Ego State Therapy and other experiential therapies. Annette is a Certified EMDR therapist and an EMDR Consultant. Annette is a consultant to other trained therapists that are new to EMDR therapy to help them administer EMDR effectively in their therapy sessions. She enjoys teaching, consulting and counseling other counselors, in addition to many types of non-clinical people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities.

Annette’s passion for PTSD Counseling using EMDR Therapy has caused her to focus more EMDR Consultation with EMDR therapists than on LPC Supervision. She also has extensive experience counseling therapists, psychologists, coaching therapists on PP business development and streamlining PP processes. Annette’s main work passion will always be to counsel individual adults.

Annette describes herself as “interactive, solution-focused therapist that gets to the root of issues." That means she works with you to help you achieve great mental health and a sense of emotional freedom. Her therapeutic approach is to provide compassionate support while guiding clients to find their own solutions after addressing the root causes to current life challenges via EMDR therapy approach.

Fun Facts:

I’m a bit strange, but who isn’t? I have a healthy sense of humor and sometimes it can be a be dark and twisty, but that’s where I “meet” a lot of my clients. I hear a lot of dark things and have a good deal of experience with some dark times in my life. I love irony and sarcasm but of course not the the expense of my client’s feelings. I love to laugh, I love to make people laugh and I often will help my clients learn to laugh again.

My stance on discrimination and oppression

I, Annette Kerr, disagrees with discrimination, and I am personally committed to eradication of all forms of oppression. I identify as a White European Heterosexual CIS Woman, and I am aware many of my community members and clients have been repressed due to issues related to race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and culture.  I invite my clients to explore the relationship between these forms of discrimination and their presenting problems in counseling.  I have experience helping clients recover from traumas resulting from many forms of discrimination.  Unfortunately I only speak and understand English so I ask that my client be fluent English speakers so we can communicate clearly with one another.

Annette Kerr

“I have been happily married for 20+ years and we have two children.  I was a military spouse of 11 years of our marriage until my husband was medically discharged.  Our family chose to settle down in Texas in 2015.  My hobbies include crafting, mystery novels, playing piano, listening to music, movies, painting and family activities of all kinds.   I love all types of fuzzy animals, even bats.”

”I am a Christian and I am an active member of my church.  I believe true peace comes from a relationship with God but I am very respectful of other's beliefs. I understand that we all choose our own paths and a spiritual journey is a very personal choice.  I also understand that many people have been traumatized due to bad experiences with "religious" people and I do my best to help people see Jesus for who he really is and to never be a part of further religiously traumatizing anyone.  I will incorporate a Christian or spiritual perspective into counseling only when my clients are comfortable and request that I do so.”
